Sprays

In general, the human body allows medicinal and active substances from nutritional supplements to reach their destination - the effect - in different ways. There are shorter and faster routes, but also routes that are longer and significantly slower. In addition, active substances may be exposed to adverse influences on the way to their destination, which may lead to their modification or degradation.

In order for the active substances to work, they must get into the blood, and it transports them to the desired place with the help of the cardiovascular system. The fastest way is application directly into the cardiovascular system by intravenous injection or intravenous infusion. However, this is not practically possible in the case of daily application of nutritional supplements.

The easiest way is to take nutritional supplements orally, that is, by mouth. In this way, it is possible to administer or take various pills, dragees, capsules, solutions, drops, suspensions, emulsions, syrups or healthy drinks. This form of receiving and using nutritional supplements is very simple and, above all, very pleasant for everyone. The disadvantage is that the drug can enter the bloodstream only after it has passed through the digestive system to the liver, from where it actually enters the blood via the portal vein. The passage of the drug through the digestive tract and liver may result in a smaller or larger transformation (metabolization) of effective doses and thus also a decrease in effectiveness, or even degradation and inactivation of the active substance. Medicine administered rectally (through the anus) enters the blood in essentially the same way (through the portal vein).

For fast and guaranteed application of the active substance, a transdermal therapeutic system is used, when the drug is administered through the skin. In this case, the active substance is administered in the form of a patch, cream, gel or spray, penetrates the skin and enters the bloodstream directly. In this way, for example, anti-nicotine preparations, which are supposed to help in quitting smoking, or plasters or pain-relieving creams and gels, are administered.

Applying a spray form of active substances to the skin is one of the alternatives that is beginning to be and will be more and more preferred over the use of tablets or injection. When applying sprays to the wrist or locally to the affected area, the active substances are absorbed transdermally into the bloodstream. In this way, we avoid the exposure of active substances to the environment in the mouth or in the stomach or other parts of the digestive tract, and thus also the risk of modification or degradation of active substances. The skin provides a large surface area suitable for absorption. It has been proven that absorption is much faster in this case than when taken in the form of tablets or capsules.
